Yesterday? We pressed.

Today? We press again.

On the menu:

  • πŸ” The Refill: Our Under cashed. Then the bullpens set the house on fire.

  • πŸ«— The Main Pour: A win is a receipt, not a report card.

  • 🎯 The Squeeze Play: Hunter Brown vs. a bullpen running on fumes.

  • πŸ“Š The Juice Counter: 3-0.

  • 🍹 The Juice Bar: What else we're watching.

  • 🧠 Brain Juice: What βˆ’144 actually means.

πŸ” The Refill

Yesterday's Squeeze: Phillies/Braves First 5 Under 4 (βˆ’149).

Luzardo, making his first start in 22 days, went five innings on 77 pitches. Sale matched him. 1-1 after five. Cash. βœ…

Then the part we specifically refused to bet showed up. Six runs after the fifth. Realmuto tripled home two in the seventh, Austin Riley hit a three-run homer late off Jhoan Duran, and Atlanta won 5-3.

Full-game Under bettors had a long evening. We were already in the fridge chilling.

πŸ«— The Main Pour

A win is a receipt. Not a report card.

Monday we passed on an Under that cashed. We said it didn't count.

So here's the fair part: yesterday's win doesn't prove we're geniuses either.

What yesterday proved is smaller, and more useful. We said exactly what we were betting, and why. Sale and Luzardo. Five innings. Keep the bullpens out of it.

And then the game showed us precisely why that mattered. Through five, the handicap held. After five, the bullpens took over and the game turned into something completely different.

That's the whole point of betting a part of a game. You bet the part you have an opinion on. You leave the rest on the shelf.

We're not celebrating that we won. We're celebrating that we won for the reason we said we would.

Which brings us to today. Same discipline. Different matchup.

🎯 The Squeeze Play

White Sox @ Astros Β· Astros ML (βˆ’144)

Houston is one loss from going home. Somehow, that's the best news we've read all week. Because the Astros didn't burn their ace yesterday.

Give us Hunter Brown at home. Give us a White Sox bullpen that emptied the tank to win Game 1. We'll take it from there.

1. The best arm in the series, rolling. Brown finished at 6-4 with a 3.19 ERA and 124 strikeouts in 20 starts. The last seven have been nastier: a 2.33 ERA. He goes on regular four days' rest after his last outing: 5β…“ innings, two hits, one run.

1.38

ERA vs. White Sox in 2026 (13 IP)

2-0

Record vs. White Sox this year

2.33

ERA over his last 7 starts

And Chicago? Brown faced them twice this year and allowed two earned runs in 13 innings. Same lineup. Same guy. Now in the postseason.

2. Chicago's bullpen emptied the tank yesterday. Chicago won Game 1 with a bullpen day. Great for Game 1. Expensive for Game 2.

Grant Taylor, their hardest thrower, went 2β…“ innings on a career-high 54 pitches. The White Sox say he'd seemingly only pitch today in a series-clinching spot. Hagen Smith started and threw three scoreless. He's the one arm they've ruled out today.

So Chicago needs Sean Burke to go deep. Burke is good: 11-7, 3.34 ERA, 185 strikeouts in 172β…“ innings. But the White Sox rotation doesn't go deep often, and the bullpen behind him is thinner than it was 24 hours ago.

3. Houston's pen is fine, and Yordan is cooking. Houston used eight relievers yesterday, and its bullpen is still in pretty good shape. Josh Hader is waiting at the back end. At the plate, Yordan Alvarez carries a 13-game hitting streak into today. Over his last 10: .368, two homers, seven RBIs.

The risk?

We're not hiding this part. Houston's rotation had a 4.81 ERA this year, 27th in baseball. This bet is Brown or bust. Houston is 8-9 when favored in Brown's starts. The team around him hasn't always cashed his outings.

Chicago's bats woke up. Every White Sox starter reached base at least once in Game 1. And βˆ’144 isn't cheap. So we're betting the moneyline, not the run line. We don't need a blowout. We need Houston to win one game.

🍊 THE SQUEEZE:

Astros ML (βˆ’144)

Best arm on the field. Their bullpen already spent. Houston's season on the line. Squeeze it. Our number: βˆ’144. At βˆ’150 or worse, this one gets a fresh look. A new price is a new bet.

🍹 The Juice Bar

  • Watching: Phillies @ Braves, Game 2 (2 PM ET). Cristopher SΓ‘nchez vs. Tyler Mahle, with Philly facing elimination. Jhoan Duran threw 27 pitches over two innings yesterday and his status is uncertain. Lots of opinions. No price we love yet.

  • Also on the board: Red Sox @ Yankees (8 PM) and Cubs @ Padres (10 PM). Watching, not forcing.

  • Still watching: Browns +2.5, Thursday 8:15 PM ET. We want a better number or a reason to believe this one is wrong. We don't have either yet.

Watch. Don't chase.

2) DraftKings lets you pick the timeout. Its September 14 announcement introduced custom cool-offs lasting 3–364 days. Your app can sit a few plays out, too. Source: DraftKings

3) Football’s receipt is enormous. The AGA projects $29.5 billion in legal NFL wagers this season, roughly flat against last year’s $29.4 billion. That’s money wagered, not money won. Source: AGA, September 4

What βˆ’144 actually means

βˆ’144 means you risk $144 to win $100.

Here's the part most people skip. That price has a break-even built in:

144 Γ· (144 + 100) = 59.0%

So the question isn't "will Houston win?" It's "does Houston win this game more than 59 times out of 100?"

At 59%, we're paying for Brown. At what we think this matchup really is, with Chicago's bullpen dented and Brown owning this lineup, we think we're getting a little more than we're paying for.

Every favorite is a percentage. Know yours before you lay it.

Trivia: On this day in 1927, Babe Ruth hit his 60th home run of the season. Whose single-season record did he break? Answer in The Last Drop.

πŸ“¬ The Juice Box

Today's question:

"If you love Brown, why not the run line?"

Because the run line asks a different question. Astros βˆ’1.5 needs Houston to win by two.

A starter like Brown against a starter like Burke is exactly the kind of game that ends 3-2. That one-run win cashes our moneyline and loses the run line.

Our handicap is "Houston wins." So we bet "Houston wins." Nothing extra.

Got a question? Hit reply. Juice reads all the mail.

πŸ˜‚ Juicy Memes

Juice calmly holds his coffee while flames flicker around his baseball TV. When the bullpen enters. This is fine.

Our starter leaves. Our resting heart rate leaves with him.

πŸ“° Pulp Fiction

"The team that loses Game 1 is done. Fade them."

FICTION. For today, anyway.

History says Chicago is a big favorite to win the series. Game 1 winners take it 21 of 24 times.

But that stat is built on Game 1 winners also winning Game 2 or Game 3. It doesn't price today's pitching matchup. It doesn't know Taylor threw 54 pitches. It doesn't know Houston saved its ace.

Series history is a headline. Today's matchup is a price. Bet the price.

On this day in 1927, Babe Ruth hit home run No. 60 at Yankee Stadium. A new single-season record, set in the second-to-last game of the year.

No launch angle. No exit velocity. Just a guy in a wool uniform who apparently didn't know it was supposed to be hard.

πŸ’§ The Last Drop

Trivia answer:

Ruth broke his own record of 59, from 1921.

3-0. Nobody's getting a tattoo. We'll grade today's the same way we graded yesterday's: by whether we were right for the right reason.

See you tomorrow.
