🧾 The Refill

FREE SQUEEZE PLAY · 9–3–0

Yesterday: Florida/South Carolina Over 55.5 ✅

South Carolina 38, Florida 19. Fifty-seven total points, and we needed 56. We bought the buffer under the public total so a boring Saturday couldn't beat us, and it wasn't a boring Saturday.

🍊 The Squeeze Play

🍊 Broncos @ Chargers: Broncos −3.5

The Chargers are 0–4 and might start four rookies up front. Denver's missing Surtain and Moss, so it's not pretty. We're laying the healthier roster at the best number on the board.

Why the number
The main board is Denver −3.5. The −2.5 is gone. It moved after Slater went on IR. We're paying −107 at Caesars, a tick better than −108/−110 everywhere else. Hooking over 3 is the risk: if Denver wins by 1 or 2, it dies. The best moneyline we saw was about −186 at FanDuel. We're taking the spread for the price.

Why we're in

  1. LA's offensive line is gutted. Slater's on IR. Alt, Penning and Awosika are out. The team preview says maybe four rookies up front.

  2. The Chargers are also without Derwin James, Donte Jackson and Quentin Johnston. McConkey is questionable after missing practice all week.

  3. Herbert has 6 INTs. LA has 10 turnovers, the most in the NFL. Source: Chargers injury report.

🧃 The Pulp
Surtain II and Riley Moss are both out for Denver. Payton's back calling plays. If Denver wins by exactly 3, we lose. Recheck inactives around 2:35 PM ET Sunday for McConkey.

🍊 Squeeze Play: Broncos −3.5 (−107), Caesars, 1 orange (price as of ~8:25 PM ET Sat Oct 10)

Game: Broncos @ Chargers · Sun Oct 11 · 4:05 PM ET · SoFi · CBS

Caesars is a sportsbook; available where legal. 1 🍊 = 1% of your bankroll.

Lines move. If Caesars −107 is gone Sunday morning and the best is −110 or worse with no juice edge, or McConkey is a full go and the OL news flips, we're out, and you should be too.

🥤 The Main Pour

Yards make the highlight. Turnovers make the final.

Saturday morning, 97% of the moneyline tickets on Texas–Oklahoma were on Texas. So was 92% of the money. The Longhorns were No. 1, a 7.5-point favorite and −310 on the moneyline (Action Network consensus, ~7:00 AM ET Sat).

Final: Oklahoma 27, Texas 24. Tate Sandell hit a 47-yarder on the last play (AP via ESPN).

How it happened is the useful part. Texas outgained Oklahoma 382–238 (ESPN box). Oklahoma went three-and-out seven times. It didn't matter, because the Sooners scored on special teams and on defense, and Arch Manning threw two costly interceptions. Oklahoma turned it over zero times. That's how a game with a 39.5 total ends at 51: two of the touchdowns came with no offense on the field.

Oklahoma hadn't beaten a No. 1 team since 2007, and it was 0–4–1 against top-ranked Texas teams (AP).

Texas wasn't the only favorite who lost outright. No. 21 UCLA won 17–15 at No. 13 Oregon as roughly a 10-point underdog, and Oregon gave it away seven times. Georgia Tech, a 6.5-point dog, beat Duke 28–25 (ESPN finals; lines are AN consensus, Sat AM).

Now look at today. Three NFL favorites are priced at −345 or shorter: Eagles −390 at Jacksonville, Texans −365 at Tennessee and Bengals −345 at Miami (AN consensus, Sat AM; prices will move). Those numbers already assume the favorite loses some of the time. Saturday was one of those times.

The takeaway: yards make the highlight package. Turnovers and special teams make the final score. A big moneyline price tells you how often the favorite wins, not that it will.

🍹 Off the Menu

Three games we're watching, and the side we lean. Leans, not bets. No oranges.

🌧️ Texans @ Titans · 1:00 PM ET
Both teams are 0–4. Somebody wins today. Houston opened −3.5 and it's −7 now, with 94% of the moneyline tickets on the Texans (AN, Sat AM). Tropical Storm Isaias is supposed to bring heavy rain to Nashville (Texans.com), and two Houston offensive line starters are questionable with an illness (Texans injury report). Seven is a lot to lay in a puddle between two winless teams.
Lean: Titans +7.

🏈 Ravens @ Falcons · 8:20 PM ET · NBC
Lamar Jackson is out and Tyler Huntley starts (NFL.com). Baltimore's plan B is Derrick Henry, into a Falcons defense allowing 48.3 rushing yards a game, best in the league (AP via CBS). The total already fell from 48.5 to 44, and 73% of the tickets are still on the Over.
Lean: Under 44.

🩹 Raiders @ Patriots · 1:00 PM ET
The skill-position injury list is long on both sides: Jeanty and Bowers are questionable and Nailor is out for Las Vegas. Stevenson is out and Hollins just went to IR for New England. The public sees two offenses and 74% of the tickets are on the Over. We see a lot of backups catching passes.
Lean: Under 45.5.

Cashed on the back nine: A Texas–Oklahoma Over 39.5 bettor posted the win at 7:01 PM ET, from a golf course, before the game was even over. @Jab404_ on X

It got chippy early: The Red River sidelines had a scuffle long before the kick. Underdog CFB on X

From +3000 to +105: UCLA was +3000 to make the College Football Playoff in the preseason. After winning at Oregon, the Bruins are 5–0 and +105. Pikkit on X

🍊 Orange Slices

🍊 Vintage Juice: Oct. 11, 2003, Fenway Park

ALCS Game 3, Yankees–Red Sox. Pedro Martínez hit Karim Garcia in the fourth. In the bottom half, Roger Clemens threw one at eye level to Manny Ramírez, and both benches emptied. Yankees bench coach Don Zimmer, 72, charged Pedro. Pedro sidestepped him, grabbed his head and put him on the ground (Herald-Tribune/AP). Nobody was ejected. Fenway shut down the beer stands for the rest of the game.

Everyone remembers the brawl. The box score remembers Yankees 4, Red Sox 3, a win for Clemens and a loss for Pedro (Baseball-Reference). Tickets cash on the final score, not the highlight.

🤖 Beat the Vig answer: B. About 51.7%.

Break-even on a minus price is the price divided by (the price plus 100). At −107 that's 107 ÷ 207 = 51.7%. At −110 it's 110 ÷ 210 = 52.4%, which is C. A (50%) is a coin flip with no vig, and nobody's selling those. Three cents of juice cut the bar by about seven-tenths of a point on every bet you make. Do that all season and it adds up to real money. That's why we shop every number.

Tomorrow: Sunday's Refill, graded win or loss, and the ALCS starts Monday at the Trop (MLB.com).
