πŸ«— The Main Pour

Ovechkin's farewell tour is pricey. Just not on the moneyline.

Alex Ovechkin said Monday this season is his last. The internet responded the only way it knows how: it marked up the seats. The cheapest ticket to his final regular-season home game, April 4 against Pittsburgh, went from $381 to $725 on VividSeats in a week. That's up 90%. (ESPN)

Tonight it's Pittsburgh at Washington, 7:30 PM ET on TNT, and the betting crowd is just as sentimental: 86% of moneyline tickets are on the Caps. The price skipped the tribute. DraftKings opened Washington at βˆ’170 back in September. It's βˆ’162 now, and 56% of the moneyline money is on Pittsburgh (Action Network, 2:54 AM ET).

Fans are paying 90% more to say goodbye. The moneyline is charging 8 cents less. Eight cents is small, and most of it moved in one burst Tuesday afternoon. We can't tell you why, only which way: away from the crowd. We're not betting it. Nostalgia is a ticket-market product.

The takeaway: before you bet a feeling, check whether the price feels it too.

🎯 The Squeeze Play

Rays @ Yankees, ALDS Game 3: Yankees ML

Down 0–2 in a best-of-five, the Yankees are out of tomorrows. Tonight is the whole calendar.

Why the line matters
DraftKings opened New York at βˆ’147. It's βˆ’176 now. BetMGM is still hanging βˆ’160, the best price we found at 2:34 AM ET. At βˆ’160, we need this to cash about 61.5% of the time. Take BetMGM's cut out of its own prices and it rates New York at 59.1%. ESPN's matchup predictor says 63.8%. Pricey, and we know it.

Why we're in
Max Fried owns this matchup: 5–1 with a 1.81 ERA in seven career starts against Tampa.
He allowed four homers in 112β…” innings this year. Four. His last start was six innings of one-run ball to close out Boston.
Nick Martinez allowed 22 homers this season, 13 of them to lefties. New York keeps stacking lefties against righties.
Ben Rice is 7-for-15 with four homers this postseason. He'd like some company.

πŸ§ƒ The Pulp

Everyone not named Rice or Austin Wells is 1-for-46 in this series, and Aaron Judge isn't on the roster. Martinez has a 2.38 road ERA and allowed three runs in 12 innings at Yankee Stadium this year. Tampa's bullpen has only had to get 7 of 54 outs this series, so it shows up fresh. If the bats stay asleep, Fried can be brilliant and still lose 2–1. The Rays already clinched a title in the Bronx once this year. They don't need directions.

Squeeze Rating: 🍊 (1% of bankroll. Each 🍊 = 1%.)

Lines move. If yours is worse than βˆ’170, we're out, and you should be too. If Fried is scratched, we're out.

πŸ‹ The Sour Squeeze

This one's ours. Dodgers @ Braves, first 5 innings Under 3.5 (βˆ’140). One orange.

Yesterday we wrote, word for word: "This loses on one bad inning." Nailed it.

Top of the 3rd: Mauricio DubΓ³n robs Freddie Freeman at the wall. Under lives. We'd name a kid after him.

Top of the 4th: KikΓ© HernΓ‘ndez, two-run homer. Freeman, solo homer. Four minutes, 3–0. One bad inning, exactly as advertised, just three innings late.

Bottom of the 5th: DubΓ³n singles. Thomas singles. Yamamoto's only walk of the night loads the bases with one out. We needed a double play. We got a first-pitch groundout. DubΓ³n scored.

He saved us in the 3rd. He sank us in the 5th. The kid's name is off the table.

The Braves scored one run all night. They spent it on us.

7–2–0, +5.40u. No emotional-support parlay.

πŸ˜‚ Juicy Meme

Two panels: Juice on the couch circling MAURICIO on a baby-names list after a 3rd-inning catch, then crossing it out after the 5th inning with the score LAD 3, ATL 1.

Same guy. Two innings apart. Added to the blacklist.

πŸ“° Pulp Fiction

"We lost yesterday, so we're due."

Tonight's game never heard of yesterday's. The universe isn't running a punch card. We're still at one orange. Bigger bets after a loss turn a bad inning into a bad month.

FICTION: A loss makes the next bet likelier to win.

THE JUICE: Every bet starts at zero. So does the size.

πŸ•°οΈ Vintage Juice

Oct. 7, 1916: Georgia Tech 222, Cumberland 0. Coach John Heisman (yes, that Heisman) was settling a score from a 22–0 baseball loss. Cumberland never made a first down. Heisman's idea of mercy: shorter quarters after halftime. No spread survives that. NCAA.com

πŸ’§ The Last Drop

B) About 59.1%.

Real chances add up to 100%. BetMGM's add up to 104.1%, and the extra 4.1% is the book's markup. Divide New York's 61.5 by 104.1 and you get about 59.1%. Not A: 61.5% is the break-even at βˆ’160, cut included. Not C: 100 minus Tampa's 42.6% treats Tampa's number as fair, cut and all. We pay it because ESPN's model has New York at 63.8%.

That's Wednesday. Tomorrow: Bucs at Cowboys on Thursday Night Football (8:15 PM ET, Prime Video), and the Juice Counter finds out how the Bronx went. See you before breakfast.
