Today: Phillies @ Braves First 5 Under 4 (βˆ’149) 🍊

GM. This is Everyday Juice, the sports betting newsletter that knows the difference between β€œI like it” and β€œI'm betting it.”

Yesterday? We passed.

Today? We're pressing.

On the menu:

πŸ” The Refill: Our pass cashed. It still doesn't count.

πŸ«— The Main Pour: Results don't make bad decisions goodβ€”or good decisions bad.

🎯 The Squeeze Play: Two nasty lefties. Five innings. One Under.

πŸ“Š The Juice Counter: Still 2-0.

🍹 The Juice Bar: What else we're watching.

πŸ” The Refill

Yesterday's Squeeze Play was a pass, no stake, on Eagles @ Bears Under 41.5. The total had already fallen from 46.5 to 41.5, and we couldn't name what 41.5 still had wrong. Monday finished Bears 27, Eagles 7, total 34. Case Keenum started, and Chicago took the ball away three times. The Under would have cashed. We still don't grade a bet we didn't make.

πŸ«— The Main Pour

We passed. Not a win. Total 34.

You can’t cash a bet you didn't make!

Sports betting gives you a dangerous superpower every morning:

Hindsight.

After the game, everything looks obvious. Of course the Under hit. Of course that dog was live. Of course we should've taken the number. Except that's not how betting works. You're not betting the final score.

You're betting a price before you know the final score.

Monday's Under opened 46.5.

By the time we got there, it was 41.5.

Those aren't the same bet. Five points disappeared. The market learned something. And unless we could explain why the new number was still wrong, there was no reason to force it.

The game landed at 34. Cool. We'd make the same pass again. Because the goal isn't to look smart the next morning.

It's to make good decisions before the game starts.

Which brings us to today. Because this time, we found a number we're willing to bet.

🎯 The Squeeze Play

Phillies @ Braves β€” First 5 Under 4 (βˆ’149)

Playoff baseball is here, and apparently somebody forgot to tell these offenses they're supposed to help. We're keeping this simple:

Give us Chris Sale. Give us JesΓΊs Luzardo. And get us out before the bullpens start touching things.

Sale has been ridiculous. He finished the regular season with a 2.16 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 200 strikeouts in 162.2 innings.

His final tune-up?

5β…” innings. One run. 10 strikeouts. Zero walks.

And Philadelphia already knows what this looks like.Sale faced the Phillies twice in September and allowed five total runs across 13 innings, striking out 13 against only three walks.

Then there's Luzardo.

He finished 2026 with a 2.86 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 221 strikeouts in 179β…” innings.

And the last time Atlanta saw him?

Good luck.

9 innings.
2 hits.
1 walk.
12 strikeouts.
0 runs.

A complete-game shutout against this exact Braves club on September 7. So why First 5 instead of the full-game Under?

Because our handicap is about Sale and Luzardo.

That's it. We don't need six relievers, three pinch hitters and October baseball deciding it's time to get weird.

The risk

We're not hiding this part. Luzardo is coming back from left shoulder inflammation and only threw one inning Sunday. So there's more workload uncertainty on his side than we'd normally love.

But we're also not asking him for seven innings. We're asking this matchup to survive five. And the number gives us something we really like:

Four runs is a push.

0-0? Cash.

2-1? Cash.

2-2?

Give us our money back and we'll go find another orange. With Sale on one side and Luzardo on the other, we'll take that cushion.

🍊 THE SQUEEZE: Phillies/Braves First 5 Under 4 (βˆ’149)

Two lefties. Two swing-and-miss arms. Five innings. Keep the bullpen out of our orange juice.

But Cleveland +2.5 at even money is officially on the watchlist.

The number matters here, and so does the injury report.

We're interested in whether the market gives us a better priceβ€”or whether the next injury report gives us a reason to believe the current number is wrong.

Until then:

Watch. Don't chase.

β€œI like the Under” is incomplete.

At what number?

Yesterday gave us the perfect example. Eagles/Bears Under 46.5 and Under 41.5 weren't the same bet. And neither are:

Phillies/Braves F5 Under 4

and

Phillies/Braves F5 Under 3.5.

That half-run looks tiny. It isn't. At 4, a 2-2 game gives us our money back.At 3.5, the same score loses.

Same pitchers. Same game. Same handicap.

Different bet.

That's why today's Squeeze is specifically:

F5 Under 4 (βˆ’149).

Not β€œtake the Under at whatever your sportsbook happens to show. ”The number isn't something attached to the bet.

The number IS the bet.

Trivia: Barry Bonds hit 73 home runs in 2001. Whose record did he break, and what was the old number? Answer in The Last Drop.

πŸ“¬ The Juice Box

Today's question:

If I miss the number you publish, should I still bet it?

Not automatically. A new number is a new bet. Today's Squeeze Play is another perfect example. We're playing:

F5 Under 4 (βˆ’149).

If you open your sportsbook later and the only option is Under 3.5, don't blindly tail it. You've lost the push protection at four. The bet changed. And our opinion may change with it.

That's why Everyday Juice will always try to give you the exact number and price we're willing to play.

βš–οΈ The Taste Test

You love a First 5 Under. The market moves from:

Under 4 β†’ Under 3.5

What are you doing?

🍊 Passing. The number changed.

πŸ”₯ Still betting it. Same game, same pitchers.

Your call.

πŸ“° Pulp Fiction

β€œYou need action every day to make money betting sports.”

FICTION.

Yesterday we passed. Today we bet. That's how this is supposed to work. Your bankroll doesn't care whether you made zero bets yesterday or 14.

It cares whether the bets you eventually make have an edge. Sometimes the sharpest thing on the board is:

Nothing.

Other days?

Sale + Luzardo + five innings gives us something worth squeezing.

On this day in 1954, Willie Mays made one of the most famous defensive plays in baseball history. World Series. Game 1. Polo Grounds.

Vic Wertz crushed one deep into center. Mays turned his back to home plate, sprinted toward the wall and made The Catch over his shoulder.
