  • ๐Ÿ” Yesterday's Bronx bet, graded.

  • ๐Ÿซ— A college total ran seven points from the bets.

  • ๐ŸŽฏ One orange on a Bucs tight end who's cleared his number six straight times.

  • ๐Ÿน Four games, one clinch try, one favorite that switched sides.

  • โšก Three reads, including 18 walks that went nowhere.

  • ๐Ÿ‹ A game-tying homer that lasted one replay.

  • ๐Ÿท๏ธ Two true Bucs stats that point opposite ways.

Brain Juice: Cade Otton has cleared 24.5 receiving yards in all four games this season. Our price on the Over is โˆ’156. How often does he need to clear it for that price to break even?

A) About half the time.
B) About 61% of the time.
C) Every time, like he has so far.

We paid โˆ’160 for a team with no tomorrows. Turns out it didn't have a tonight either.

The Main Pour

71% want a shootout. The total left without them.

USF (4โ€“1) visits UTSA (4โ€“1) tonight, 7:30 PM ET on ESPN. On the total, 71% of the tickets and 65% of the money are on the Over (Action Network, 6:58 AM ET). The number went the other way. FanDuel opened it at 57.5 early Sunday, was at 53.5 by mid-morning, and has sat at 50.5 since Monday evening. DraftKings, which opened at 55.5 Sunday morning, has bounced between 49.5 and 50.5 since Monday.

Most of the bets and most of the dollars on one side, with the line moving to the other. Betting Twitter has one word for that shape: sharp. We have four: we don't know who. ESPN lists no injuries for either team. Could be a bettor the books listen to. Could be news we don't have.

We don't know when those Over bets came in, but the whole seven-point drop was done by Monday evening. Anyone on the Over at FanDuel today gets 50.5, seven points easier than Sunday's opener: a bargain, or a party that already left. We're not betting it.

The takeaway: a line moving against the crowd tells you which way. It doesn't tell you why.

The Squeeze Play

Bucs @ Cowboys: Cade Otton OVER 24.5 receiving yards

Tampa's quarterback has one NFL start. Its tight end has cleared this number six straight games, every game this season plus the last two of last year. We're betting on the tight end.

Why the line matters
Most books list Otton at 29.5. On Novig, a prediction market where users trade against each other instead of a house, 24.5 is โˆ’156: five fewer yards, more juice. Since the start of last season, he's cleared it 65% of the time. Is that enough at โˆ’156? That's today's Brain Juice, answered in The Last Drop. Either way, this is a lean, not an edge.

Why we're in
He's cleared 24.5 in all four games this season, six straight going back to last December.
The rookie didn't slow him down. With Jalon Daniels at QB last week: 4 catches, 37 yards, more than any other Buc.
Dallas has given up 53 receiving yards a game to tight ends this season, more than double the number.
Three catches got him there twice this season.

๐Ÿงƒ The Pulp

Daniels has one start: 148 passing yards, 14 points. If Tampa can't sustain drives, he doesn't get 25, even playing from behind. His one road game this year went for 26 yards, clearing by a yard and a half. And that 53 is every tight end Dallas has faced, combined. Each team's top tight end averaged 34.
Four for four is a streak, not a law of physics. One orange, not a wedge more.

๐ŸŠ Squeeze Play: Cade Otton Over 24.5 receiving yards (โˆ’156), Novig, 1 orange (price as of 10:16 AM ET)

Most sportsbooks list him at 29.5. Novig is a prediction market, not a sportsbook, and isn't available in every state.

Lines move. If yours is 25.5 or higher, or 24.5 at worse than โˆ’165, we're out, and you should be too.

Juicy Meme
Two-panel meme. Top: Juice relaxes on the couch next to a phone showing Otton Over 24.5 yards, 6 straight, captioned 'Six straight. Easy money.' Bottom: Juice sweats over a calculator reading 60.9% while the phone shows โˆ’156, captioned 'Why is there homework?'

The streak is free. The price isn't.

The Sour Squeeze

This one's ours. Rays @ Yankees, ALDS Game 3, Yankees ML (โˆ’160). One orange.

Top of the 6th, 2โ€“2. Victor Mesa Jr. hits a two-run homer off Max Fried. Rays 4โ€“2. Annoying, but survivable.

Bottom of the 6th, one out. George Lombard Jr. walks after the Yankees challenge a called strike and win. Austin Wells walks too, until the Rays challenge and it becomes strike three. The robot umps giveth. The robot umps taketh away.

Two outs. Anthony Volpe drives one to left, and it's called a two-run homer on the field. Tie game. For a few glorious seconds, we were geniuses.

Then a fan reaches over the wall and catches it, right above Mesa's leaping glove.

Replay rules it wouldn't have cleared the wall, and Mesa wouldn't have caught it either. So it's an RBI double, and the umps let Lombard score from first. 4โ€“3. A homer, then not a homer, then still not enough. Spencer Jones strikes out, and the Yankees never score again. Rays sweep.

In 1996, a fan reached over the wall and Derek Jeter's homer stood. Thirty years later, the Bronx got the other half of that deal.

Robot umps went 1โ€“1. The fan went 1-for-1. We went 0-for-1.

Check the Label

On the jar: "The Bucs haven't covered in 13 straight. Lay the points."

True, per AP: it's the longest ATS skid of the Super Bowl era. Also true: Tampa's last 10 games were all one-possession games. One stat says lay the 8.5. The other says take it.

Label check: a streak is a receipt for old numbers. Tonight's 8.5 already read both.

Oct. 8, 1956: Three days after Brooklyn knocked him out in the second inning, Don Larsen threw the only perfect game in World Series history, 2โ€“0 on 97 pitches. The Last Drop

B) About 61% of the time.

At โˆ’156 you risk 156 to win 100, so you need 156 wins in every 256 tries: 60.9%. Not A: half the time is what an even-money bet needs. Not C: the price doesn't ask for perfect. It asks for 61. His last 10 games: 6 for 10, a hair under the bar. Since the start of last season: 13 for 20, 65%, about four points over it. Twenty games is a small sample, so that's a lean, not an edge, and why it's one orange. A streak tells you what happened. The price tells you what you need.

That's Thursday. Tomorrow, the Liberty and the Aces both play Game 3, both down 0โ€“2. (ESPN ยท WNBA.com) See you before breakfast.
